In Part one of this series of articles some very important concepts were covered when it comes to weight loss issues. The most important one in my opinion is psychological reversal. This condition is the cause of most of the self sabotage that occurs when you are trying to lose weight. Just to refresh your memory, psychological reversal, simply stated, is when you subconsciously don’t want the thing that you are consciously trying to achieve. The subconscious mind always wins.
You have this brilliant “Little Commander” called the subconscious mind who works 24-7 behind the scenes in an effort to do what is “best for you to keep you safe.” You don’t even know when the programming of the subconscious mind took place. Some suggest that up until the age of six our minds are in a trance like state, something like hypnosis, which completely leaves it open for suggestions. At this time in your life your were most vulnerable to being programmed by your surroundings. Life experiences at that time in your life contribute greatly to your subconscious programming. Let’s suppose you are having difficulty losing weight. Suppose also that the last time you were at a happy weight you went through an emotional disruption like a divorce or the loss of a loved one. Your subconscious mind has a way of connecting events to anything including your body image. EFT has been well designed to make new emotional connections and start to delete the old ones.
If you do not know how the EFT process works then you may want to visit http://www.emofree.com/a/?2221/1″ and download the free manual to get started.
The first step is to come up with a set up phrase for the problem in which you are dealing. You will then tap on specific acupuncture points as you repeat a reminder phrase. If you have been trying to lose weight for quite a while then I am going to suggest that you are most likely psychologically reversed when it comes to weight loss. In other words your subconscious mind has been programmed to believe that losing weight is not the right thing to do. It may even have programming to support that it is not physically or emotionally safe to lose weight at this time.
EFT works best when the setup statement is in alignment with the body and the mind. The setup statement for weight loss when a psychological reversal is present may be like this, “Even though I do not want to lose weight, I deeply and completely accept myself.” As crazy as it sounds this is a true statement or you would not have a long term weight problem. As you tap on the proper points while saying a statement like this, thoughts begin to arise in your mind and help to uncover the core issues behind the hidden emotion which is causing your weight problem. In turn those thoughts consisting of issues and aspects of those issues are then turned into setup statements and the points are tapped for each of them.
Here is an example. Let’s say you were tapping with the statement “Even though I do not want to lose weight, I still deeply and completely accept myself”, and the thought or issue came to you that your father died the last time you were at your perfect weight. You would then make up your next setup statement to say something like “Even though my father died when I was at my perfect weight I deeply and completely accept myself. Somehow the subconscious mind has connected that bad things happen when you are at your perfect weight. The process can unwind rather quickly sometimes as the proverbial “Onion” is peeled away in hours rather than years.
If I have made this process seem difficult I am sorry, but I wanted to get a clear point across to you. This is a difficult problem with no magic pill answers. Yes, I have seen EFT work miracles on many things and I have heard of clients on the path to permanent weight loss after just one session. My experience has been that the longer the weight problem has been there the longer it takes to get to and release the core issues. The good news is that once those issues have been dealt with, weight control can be permanently gained.
Let’s face it, if diets worked you would be thin right now. The vast majority of people with weight problems, eat when they are not hungry to cover up or compensate for cravings and urges backed by emotions they do not want to face.
